BAHÇEŞEHİR UNIVERSITY 2017-2018 ACADEMIC YEAR ACADEMIC CALENDAR FOR GRADUATE DEGREE EDUCATION   

FALL SEMESTER

This academic calendar has been prepared taking the current conditions into consideration. Making any amendments in the academic calendar and postponing the exams falls under the discretion of the University administration and the Senate. The students, the faculty and the administrative staff may not lay any claim in case of any amendments.
05 June 2017 Monday -
15 September 2017 Friday 
Admission and registration of International Graduate degree students for the Fall Semester of the 2017-2018 Academic year begins.  Admission, registration to the University and  all financial obligations have to be fulfilled by 15 September 2017, Friday. This is the deadline for all visa procedures and Univesity registrations of the International students. 
22 August 2017 Tuesday English Proficiency Exam  for Graduate students.    Written exam:  09:00                         Speaking exam: 13:00                      Place of exam: Beşiktaş (South Campus  L-Block)   
23 August 2017 Wednesday Announcement of the results of the (22 August  2017, Tuesday) English Proficiency Exam on the Internet.   
24 August 2017 Thursday TURKISH Language Proficiency Exam for International  students who have been accepted to associate, undergraduate and graduate degree programs in which the medium of instruction is Turkish, but who do not hold a certificate for Turkish Language Proficiency & the announcement of the Exam results.  The Exam will be organized by the School of Foreign Languages. The Written and Speaking Exams are planned to be held at 09:30 and 13:30 respectively and the place of the Exam will be announced subsequently. The announcement for the Exam is to be made by the School of Foreign Languages and (international)  students who would like to take the Exam are required to apply to the School of Foreign Languages.  
25 August 2017  Friday  Deadline for admission procedures and sending acceptance letters to  Associate degree, Undergraduate and Graduate degree International students. Students who will not be able to attend the University in the Fall Semester of the 2017-2018 Academic year due to visa procedures should be alerted. Course registration dates and the dates that the courses begin are stated on the academic calendars.  International Graduate students  are required to complete their registration procedures by 15 September 2017.

15 September 2017 Friday Deadline for all Turkish and International Graduate students to fulfill their financial obligations. If students fail to fulfill these requirements in due time, their systems will be closed during the on-line course registration period, and they will not be able to register to any courses .
15 September-2017 Friday Deadline for completion of admission procedures to graduate programs and registration of students to the University in the Fall Semester of the  2017-2018 Academic year. Admission and registration procedures of all Turkish and International students must be completed during the regular course registration period.
18 September 2017 Thursday Announcement of the results of the (14 September 2017, Thursday) English Proficiency Exam on the Internet.  
18-23 September 2017 Monday-Saturday   On-line registration of all students attending the Graduate programs, including International, Erasmus and  World Exchange students. Students who have not registered during the regular course registration period cannot carry out any procrdures during the ADD-DROP period and they are not eligible to register for any courses. (The system opens on Monday at 11:00 and closes on Saturday at 17:00)
18-23 September 2017 Monday  - Saturday   On-line registration for project, thesis and seminar (courses) of Graduate students who have completed the prerequisites for project, thesis and seminars. Students who do not register for project, thesis and seminar (courses) during the regular registration period cannot register during or after the ADD-DROP week.    
18 September 2017 Monday  Inauguration ceremony of the new Academic year 2017-2018, with the participation of all the English Preparatory Program, Associate, Undergraduate,Graduate degree students' parents and  the other guests.Time:14:00. Place: Beşiktaş South Campus-B Conference Hall. 
23 September 2017 Saturday    Fall Semester Graduate program courses begin for all Graduate students 
25-30 September 2017 Monday - Saturday Graduate students who have not been able to register for their courses during the regular registration period (8-23 September 2017) and who have a justifiable reason for being unable to do so, can apply to their respective Graduate Schools, together with the documentation of their justifications. The Financial Affairs office will be notified by e-mail to open the system for those students whose justifications have been approved. The system is opened, provided that these students whose justifications have been approved fulfil their financial obligations during this week ((25-30 September, 2017); and the students themselves are responsible for registering on-line during the ADD-DROP period in the following week. Students are not permitted to register manually by petition. Course registrations are not considered as having been completed by only paying the course fees. Students who have paid their course fees but have not registered on-line for their courses will be regarded as NOT having completed their course registrations for that semester.     
02 - 07 October 2017 Monday-Saturday Course Add-Drop week for all Graduate students.Students who have not registered for any course during the regular registration period cannot register for any courses during the add-drop period; the system will be closed for these students. Therefore, students must be sure to fulfil their financial obligations and complete their course registrations during the regular registration period. Any courses dropped after these dates will be regarded as Withdrawal from the course.  (The system opens on Monday at 11:00 and closes on Saturday at 21:00) 
04 October 2017 Wednesday   Elective courses for which there has not been sufficient student registration during the ADD-DROP week will be cancelled on 04-October-2017 Wednesday, at (17:59). If a student has previously registered to such an elective course, these students will be regarded as having dropped the cancelled course.  Graduate students who had previously registered to a cancelled course are required to register to another elective course by 07-October-2017, Saturday (until  20:59). Students will not be able to register for any elective courses after this date. Students whose courses have been dropped shall be notified by SMS that they are regarded as having dropped the cancelled elective courses. However, it is the responsibility of the students to enter the system on 05-October-2017, Thursday and check the courses in their programs and see if there are any courses they may have dropped. 
28 -29 October 2017 Saturday - Sunday Republic Day  (There will be no courses on 28 October Saturday and 29 October Sunday). 
30 October 2017 Monday Beginning of applications and admissions of Graduate students for the Spring Semester.  
10 November 2017 Thursday  Commemoration of Atatürk
01 December 2017 Friday Deadline for applying to the Student Affairs Office to withdraw (W) from a course that the student has registered to in the Fall Semester.  
4-15 December 2017 Monday-Friday  Date range for submission of Master's and PhD theses to the respective Graduate Schools for format check. Any Master's and PhD theses that are submitted after the stated date will not be put into process and the candidate will not be eligible to take the exam.

15 December  2017 Friday Deadline for the announcement of the Fall Semester exam schedule to the faculty.  Applications for the correction of any errors/mistakes (if any) should be made by 20 December 2017, Wednesday, until 17:00 at the latest.
15-21 December 2017 Friday - Thursday Early final exam dates for students who are studying at our University within the scope of Erasmus, World exchange or other similar programs and for our students who will be going abroad within the scope of the same programs. The courses of the trips and departure dates of the students who will be eligible to take these exams must have been finalised and need to be verified by means of a document from their respective Graduate Schools. NOT all the students going abroad are eligible for  these exams. Students can take these exams only if there is an overlapping in their education schedules. The International Students Office (UOD) is required to submit the list of the  students who are eligibleto take these exams to the Office of the President by 04 December 2017, Monday at the latest.    
15 December  2017 Friday Deadline for the project, Master's and PhD thesis advisors to submit the titles of the projects and  theses and the names of the students and their programs - in order to form the project and thesis defence committees (thesis defence committee recommendation form) - to the respective Graduate Schools, in written form, together with the names of the recommended committee members.
16 December  2017 Saturday English Proficiency Exam  for Graduate students.    Written exam:  09:00                         Speaking exam: 13:00                      Place of exam: Beşiktaş (South Campus  L-Block)   
19 December 2017 Tuesday  Announcement of the results of the (16 December 2017, Saturday )  English Proficiency Exam  on the Internet.   
22 December 2017 Friday Deadline for the formation of the Master's and PhD thesis defence committees for the approved students, by the respective Graduate Schools, in accordance with the regulations; and the submission of a sufficient number of printed copies of the theses to the respective Graduate Schools, to be distributed to the committee members.
 26 December 2017 Tuesday  Deadline for the announcement of the Fall Semester final exam schedule to the graduate students  
28 December 2017 Thursday  Deadline for distribution of the printed copies of the theses/projects that have been examined and approved by the respective Graduate Schools, to the thesis defence committee members.    
30  December 2018 Saturday Last date of courses in the Graduate programs (Saturday)  - except for project and thesis studies  
01 January 2018 Monday New Year's Day (1 day)
06 January 2018 Saturday Deadline for submission of completed projects to the project advisors.
06 - 14 January 2018 Saturday-Sunday Final exams of the graduate courses opened in the 2017-2018 Academic year Fall Semester

13 January 2018 Saturday Deadline for the submission of the plagiarisation report, one digital copy of the graduate thesis/project on a CD and the project evaluation form of the assessed and graded project, in  approved format, to the program coordinator.. 
16 January 2018  Tuesday   Announcement of the results of the (13 January 2018, Saturday ) English Proficiency Exam on the Internet.    
17 January 2018 Wednesday Deadline for entering the grades of the Fall Semester final exams, Master's theses and projects to the system (until 18:00, at the latest). The process of entering the grades to the system must be completed by the date and time stated above so that the Make-up exams can be scheduled.  
18 January 2018 Thursday Announcement of the Fall Semester final exam grades: Time  15:00  
23-25 January 2018 Tuesday - Thursday Make-up exams for the Graduate courses opened in the 2017-2018 Academic year Fall Semester. Announcing the guidelines for the Make-up exams to the students at the beginning of the semester. Make-up exam grades are required to be submitted promply to the respective Graduate Schools in written form, and the Graduate Schools are required to submit these to the Student Affairs Office without delay.
25 January 2018 Thursday Deadline for submitting  incomplete (I) grades, corrections for wrongly recorded grades for the 2017-2018 Academic year Fall Semester (until 18:00, at the latest). THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER REGISTRATION OF THE STUDENTS! 
26 January 2018  Friday  Entering the Make-up exam grades. The Make-up exam results are required to be submitted without delay to the Student Affairs, by 26 January 2018, (until 14:00). Entering the grades to the system without delay will provide great convenience in course registrations. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! 
26 January 2018 Friday  Deadline for PhD thesis defence, PhD proficiency exams, PhD thesis supervision and submission of the results to the respective Graduate Schools. 
31 January 2018 Wednesday Deadline for submitting the records of the PhD proficiency, PhD thesis proposal, PhD thesis defence and PhD thesis supervision reports, assessed in the 2017-2018 Academic year Fall Semester,  to the respective Graduate Schools. 
01 February2018 Thursday Deadline for graduate students to complete their applications for transfer, transfer between thesis and project programs, course exemption and admission to the program as special students. 
03 February2018 Saturday English Proficiency Exam  for Graduate students.    Written exam:  09:00                         Speaking exam: 13:00                      Place of exam: Beşiktaş (South Campus  L-Block)   
06 February2018  Tuesday  Announcement of the results of the (03 February 2017, Saturday) English Proficiency Exam on the Internet.    
 08 February2018 Thursday  TURKISH Language Proficiency Exam for International  students who have been accepted to associate, undergraduate and graduate degree programs in which the medium of instruction is Turkish, but who do not hold a certificate for Turkish Language Proficiency & the announcement of the Exam results.  The Exam will be organized by the School of Foreign Languages. 19 February2018  Monday Deadline for students who have successfully passed their Master's thesis defence to submit the digital copy and the required number of printed copies of their theses in approved format, to the respective Graduate Schools.       
02 March 2018 Friday Deadline for students who have successfully passed their PhD thesis defence to submit the digital copy and the required number of printed copiesof their theses in approved format, to the respective Graduate Schools.       

SPRING SEMESTER

27 January 2018  Saturday Deadline for application and admission to the Graduate programs in the Spring Semester. Students who have been accepted to the Graduate programs are required to fulfil all their financial and academic obligations and their registration to the University by  02 February 2018, Friday and  register for their courses during the regular registration period: between  5-10 February 2018.  
05 - 10   February2018 Monday-Saturday  On-line course registration of Graduate students.  Students who have not registered during the regular registration period cannot register for any courses during the ADD-DROP period. The system will be closed to them.  (The system opens on Monday at 11:00 and closes on Saturday at 17:00)
10 February2018  Saturday  Spring Semester Graduate program courses beginfor all graduate students 
12 - 16 February2018 Monday-Friday Graduate students who have not been able to register for their courses during the regular registration period (05-10 February 2018) and who have a justifiable reason for being unable to do so, may apply to their respective Graduate Schools together with the documentation of their justifications. The financial affairs office will be notified by e-mail to open the system for those students whose justifications are approved. The system is opened provided that the students whose justifications have been approved fulfil their financial obligations during this week (12-16 February 2018); and the students themselves are responsible for registering on-line, during the ADD-DROP period in the following week. Students are not permitted to register manually by petition. Course registrations are not considered as having been completed by only paying the course fees. Students who have paid their course fees but have not registered on-line for their courses will be regarded as NOT having completed their course registrations for that semester.

02 April 2018 Monday Admission and registration of all International and Turkish Graduate degree students begin for the Fall Semester of the 2018-2019 Academic year.  Admission, visa procedures, registration to the University and all financial obligations of the students must be fulfilled by 31 August 2018, Friday.  
20 April 2018 Friday Deadline for students to apply to Student Affairs to withdraw from a course (W), for which they have registered in the 2017-2018 Academic year Spring Semester. 
23 April 2018 Monday National Sovereignty and Children’s Day ( 23 April 2018, Monday is an official  national holiday, no exams or courseson that day )
01 May 2018 Tuesday Labour and Solidarity Day (01 May 2018, Tuesday is an official national holiday, no exams or courses on that day)
02-11 May 2018 Wednesday -Friday  Date range for submission of Master's and PhD theses to the respective Graduate Schools for format check. Any Master's and PhD theses that are submitted after the stated date will not be put into process and the candidate will not be eligible to take the exam.
