BAHÇEŞEHİR UNIVERSITY  2019-2020 ACADEMİC YEAR ACADEMIC CALENDER FOR ASSOCIATE AND UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE  EDUCATION
This academic calendar has been prepared taking the current conditions into consideration. Making any amendments in the academic calendar and postponing the exams falls under the discretion of the University administration and the Senate. The students, the faculty and the administrative staff may not lay any claim in case of any amendments.
FALL SEMESTER
21 February - 16 August 2019 Thursday -Friday Admission and registration of International  Assosiate and Undergraduate students begin for the Fall Semester of the 2019-2020 Academic year. An application acceptance letter will not be sent to International students who have not obtained a valid visa by 16 August 2019. However, application acceptance letters may be sent to students who do not require a visa. All admissions, registrations to the University and financial obligations must be completed by 29 August 2019 Thursday. International students must have completed all their visa and University registration procedures by this date.
12 July 2019 Friday Submission of the detailed list of the new courses to be offered in the Fall Semester of the 2019-2020 Academic year to the Academic Planning Unit.
12 July 2019 Friday Deadline for submission of the fully completed forms of the new courses planned to be offered in the Fall Semester of the 2019-2020 Academic year, to the Commission of Education. Proposals for any other new courses will not be put on the agenda after this date.
01 July 2019 Monday Starting date of the INTERNSHIP PERIOD for students in the 6th year of  the Faculty of Medicine

01-19 August 2019 Thursday-Monday Applications for special students and transfers (between programs within the university and from other higher education institutions) to Associate and Undergraduate degree programs. Students who have a valid English Proficiency certificate are required to attach this document to their application file during the registration process.

19-23 August 2019 Monday-Friday Registration of the students who have been placed in Associate and Undergraduate degree programs by the Student Selection and  Placement Center.

22 August 2019 Thursday TURKISH Language Proficiency Exam for International  students who have been accepted to associate, undergraduate and graduate degree programs in which the medium of instruction is Turkish, but who do not hold a certificate for Turkish Language Proficiency & the announcement of the Exam results.  The Exam will be organized by the School of Foreign Languages. The Written and Speaking Exams are planned to be held at 09:30 and 13:30 respectively and the place of the Exam will be announced subsequently. The announcement for the Exam is to be made by the School of Foreign Languages and (international)  students who would like to take the Exam are required to apply to the School of Foreign Languages. The exam results will be announced on the same day.
21-23 August 2019 Wednesday-Friday Assessment of the applications for Transfer, Double major and Minor programs by the respective Units
26-29 August 2019 Monday -  Thursday Application of Associate and Undergraduate degree students who have met their graduation requirements at the end of the  2018-2019 Summer School Period to take the ADDITIONAL Exams which they are entitled to, in accordance with the academic regulations.
26 August 2019 Monday Announcement of the results of the assessments regarding the applications to Double major and Minor programs and Transfers to Associate and Undergraduate degree programs to the students. Students will be notified individually by means of a written notification as of this date.
27-29 August 2019 Tuesday -  Thursday Final registration procedures for students whose applications for Special student, Double Major and Minor programs and transfer to Associate Degree and Undergraduate programs have been accepted. Students who fail to complete their registrations will lose their rights. The lists of the students whose applications for Special student, Double Major, Minor programs and Transfer to Associate and Undergraduate programs have been accepted and who have registered to the programs they have applied for must be submitted to the respective departments in the same day so that their course adjustments can be made. It is essential that the respective units/departments (which the students have been admitted to) implement the course adjustments of the transfer students who have completed their registrations and enter their course adjustments to the system.
29 August 2019 Thursday Deadline for all Associate and Undergraduate degree students to fulfil their financial obligations for the Fall Semester registration procedures. Students who have not fulfilled their financial obligations will not be able to register for any courses during the regular registration Period since the course registration system will be closed for these students.
29 August 2019 Thursday Deadline for International Associate and Undergraduate students to fulfil their financial obligations and complete their registrations. A warning (letter) is to be sent to the students who have not completed their registrations by this date.
30 August 2019 Cuma Victory Day (National holiday)
02 September 2019 Monday Starting date for the year-long courses of 3rd year students and the Starting date for the internship of the 4th and 5th year students in the Faculty of Medicine.  The internship program will be scheduled, entered into the system and announced to all the students by the respective Faculty.
02-06 September 2019 Monday-Friday Implementation of the course adjustments of the transfer students from other institutions, who have completed their registrations, by the respective academic units. The academic unit which the student has been admitted to, is responsible/liable for entering the relevant course adjustments into the system. Course adjustments for undergraduate transfers and double major/minor programs within the university must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office. The relevant course adjustments will be entered into the system by the Registrar’s Office
03 September 2019 Tuesday TURKISH Language Proficiency Exam for International  students who have been accepted to associate, undergraduate and graduate degree programs in which the medium of instruction is Turkish, but who do not hold a certificate for Turkish Language Proficiency & the announcement of the Exam results.  The Exam will be organized by the School of Foreign Languages. 03-05 September 2019 Tuesday -  Thursday ADDITIONAL Exams for Associate and Undergraduate degree students who have met their graduation requirements at the end of the 2018- 2019 Spring semester and are eligible for the Additional Exams in accordance with the academic regulations and submission of the exam results to the Student Affairs  by the respective Dean’s Offices.
08 September 2019  Sunday English Placement Exam  (for all incoming TC and International students)                        Time of Exam: 10:00     Place of exam: Beşiktaş South Campus
09 September 2019 Monday Starting date for the year-long courses of 2nd year students in the Faculty of Medicine
09-13 September 2019 Monday-Friday Course registration period.    Online registration of the students in the Associate and Undergraduate degree programs (including International, Erasmus and World exchange students). Students who have registered for their freshman/first year courses in the Spring Semester for the first time (irregular students) will be required to register online for some of their courses and some of their courses will be assigned by SAP. During the ADD-DROP week, the newly-registered irregular students may make some changes in the courses that have been assigned by the system. Students who have not registered for any courses during the regular registration period cannot carry out any course registration procedures during the ADD-DROP week.  Students in the Faculty of Medicine are required to register for their 1-semester courses during this period.

13 September 2019 Friday Annoucement of the results of the 11 September 2019 English Proficiency Exam on the Internet and notification of the students.
16 September 2019 Monday Fall Semester courses begin for all Associate and Undergraduate degree students (including the 1st year students in the Faculty of Medicine)
16 September 2019 Monday Opening Ceremony for the 2019-2020 Academic year, with the participation of the students in the English Prep Program and the Associate, Undergraduate, Graduate degree programs; their parents and all the other guests. Time: 16:00     Place: to be announced later according to the program.
16-20 September 2019 Monday-Friday The courses of the newly registered first year students who have passed the English Proficiency Exam will automatically be entered into the system by the Student Application System (SAP). These students will not register for any courses. Apart from the incoming freshman students, all the other students (including lateral transfer, vertical transfer, International and all other students whose course adjustments have been completed, are required to register online on their own, during the regular course registration period, in accordance with the registration regulations and the academic calendar.
16-20 September 2019 Monday-Friday Orientation program for the newly-registered students at the university, organized  by the Student Dean’s Office, Corporate Communication Directorate and the respective departments that the students are registered in.
16-20 September 2019  Monday-Friday  Application of the students who have not been able to register for their courses during the regular registration Period  and who have a justifiable reason for being unable to do so, to their respective departments between the dates 16-20 September 2019 together with the documentation of their justifications. The students whose justifications are approved will be referred to the Financial Affairs by e-mail. The system is opened during the ADD-DROP Period, provided that these students whose justifications have been approved fulfil their financial obligations and the students themselves are responsible for registering on-line during the ADD-DROP Period in the following week.  Students who have paid their course fees but have not registered on-line for their courses until the end of the ADD-DROP Period  will be regarded as NOT having completed their course registrations for that semester.
16-20 September 2019  Monday-Friday Entering the Course Syllabi into the SAP system.  This is very important and a Course Syllabus must be entered into the system for every Course.
17 September 2019 Tuesday English Preparatory Programı Fall Semester Courses Begin
18 September 2019 Wednesday TURKISH Language Proficiency Exam for International  students who have been accepted to associate, undergraduate and graduate degree programs in which the medium of instruction is Turkish, but who do not hold a certificate for Turkish Language Proficiency & the announcement of the Exam results.  The Exam will be organized by the School of Foreign Languages. 21-22 September 2019Saturday-Sunday Course EXEMPTION Exams. Giving Core Course EXEMPTION Exams to students who have just started university education (students who have registered to the program for the first time, students who have passed the Language Proficiency Exam and started attending their programs, internal and external transfer students are not eligible to take exemption exams on core curriculum) and notifying the Registrar's Office about the Exemption exam results. The respective Units will make the necesary annoucements to the students regarding these exams. The General Education Unit is responsible for organizing and giving the exemption exams for the courses TLL1005-1006 offered to International Students.  The Course Subject Codes indicates the respective Unit that will be giving the exam. The exam results should be immediatelysubmitted to the Student Affairs so that  the students will be able to make the necessary changes in the ADD-DROP Period.
23-27 September 2019 Monday-Friday ADD-DROP week. Students must have fulfilled all financial procedures before the add-drop week so that their system will be  open and they must have registered for their courses online during the regular registration period. Otherwise, the system will be closed for these students and they will not be able to register for any other courses.
25 September 2019 Wednesday Elective courses for which there has not been sufficient student registration during the ADD-DROP week will be cancelled on 25 September 2019 Wednesday (at 16:00.).  Associate and Undergraduate degree students who have previously registered to one of these cancelled courses are required to register online through the SAP system to some other elective course by 27 September 2019 Friday (until 16:00). Students will not be able to choose or register for any elective courses after this date. Students whose courses have been dropped due to the cancellation of elective courses shall be notified by SMS that they are regarded as having dropped the cancelled elective courses. However, it is the responsibility of the students to enter the system on 26 September 2019 Thursday, to check the courses on their programs and see if there are any courses they may have dropped.  Elective courses which are still in demand, even though there has not been sufficient student registration, will not be taken into account regarding the teaching workload or payment to the course instructor
27 September 2019 Friday Deadline for students, who have registered for a course by some means or other, to fulfil their financial obligations. Course registrations of the students who have failed to fulfil their financial obligations will be cancelled and in that case these students will be regarded as “not having registered for a course” in that semester. The students themselves are liable for any courses that are not dropped (from their course program) by this date, whether the system has assigned the course or the students themselves have registered for that course. Especially, scholarship students should pay due care and attention to such course registrations. Since any courses that the student may have failed in are assigned by the system, SCHOLARSHIP students who do not register for their courses themselves are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to enter the system at the end of the ADD-DROP period and check the courses they are registered to in their programs

18 October 2019 Friday Scheduling of the mid-term exams for the Fall Semester and their announcement by the respective academic units. In accordance with the academic regulations, at least one written mid-term exam must be scheduled for each course. Submission of the decisions reached by the Faculty/School boards regarding how the mid-term /final exams- other than the written exams - are to be administered (i.e. oral, written)  to the Academic Planning Unit. In the event of an appeal made for re-evaluation of an exam, it is essential to provide documented evidence to support the appeal (such as a jury report, camera recording, etc.). 22 November 2019 Friday Deadline for preparing the detailed lists of all the courses to be opened in the Spring Semester and submitting them to the Academic Planning Unit; updating of departmental electives, non-departmental electives and elective course pools for the Spring Semester, by the heads of the respective departments.
22 November 2019 Friday Deadline for withdrawing  (W) from a course that you have registered for in the Fall Semester. You are required to take this course the next time it is offered in your program.
29 November 2019 Friday Deadline for submission of the fully completed forms of the new courses planned to be offered in the Spring Semester of the 2019-2020 Academic year, to the Commission of Education. Proposals for any other new courses will not be put on the agenda after this date.
29 November 2019 Friday Deadline for the announcement of the 2019-2020 Fall Semester Final Exam schedule to the faculty members.  Notification of the Academic Planning Unit by the respective departments for the correction of any errors that may have occurred by 04 December 2019, Wednesday. Personal requirements cannot be demanded.

13 December 2019 Friday Deadline for Associate and Undergraduate degree students who have financial problems to resolve their problems. Students who have not been able to settle their financial problems by this date will not be able to see/display their academic standings after the Fall Semester Final exams and they will not be able to register for any courses in the Spring Semester.
16-20 December 2019 Monday-Friday Early Final exams for Associate and Undergraduate degree students who are studying at our University within the scope of Erasmus, World exchange, winter school or other similar programs and for students who will be going abroad within the scope of the same programs. The departure dates of the students who are eligible for these exams must have been finalised and need to be verified by a document from their respective schools or faculties. NOT all the students going abroad are eligible for these exams. Students can take these exams only if there is an overlapping in their academic schedules. The International Students Office (ISO/UOD) is required to submit the list of the students who are eligible to take these exams to the Office of the President by 06 December 2019, Friday; to be forwarded to the respective Units.The students on these lists are notified of the exam dates scheduled by their respective departments. Students who are entitled to take early final exams are required to take all their final exams during the early final exam period. These students cannot take their final exams during the regular final exam period.

24 December 2019 Tuesday Last day of courses in the 2019-2020 Academic year Fall Semester (except for the year-long courses and internships in the Faculty of Medicine).
25-27 December 2019 Wednesday-Friday Period for assessing the work of the students taking graduation project/internship courses and submission of the results/their grades.
28 December 2019 - 12 January 2020 Saturday-Sunday 2019-2020 Fall Semester Final exams for Associate and Undergraduate degree programs. Students attending the Faculty of Medicine will take the final exams of their one semester courses (other than their year-long courses) between these dates, as scheduled.

16-29 January 2020 Thursday-Wednesday Applications for Special student, Double major, Minor, and transfer to Associate and Undergraduate programs. In the announcement, it should be clearly indicated how the applicants are to be notified of the results for their applications.  The applicants are required to upload their transcripts, the course contents of the courses in their curriculums and any Language Proficiency certificates that they may have into the system.

28 January 2020 Tuesday The make-up exam results must be entered into the system promptly, by  27 January 2020  until 16:00 at the latest. The  make-up exam results will be displayed in the system as soon as they are entered.

30 January 2020 Thursday Deadline for all students to pay their Spring semester tuition fees for the 2019-2020 Academic year. The SAP system will not be open for the registration of students who have not fulfilled their financial obligations before the regular registration period and these students will not be able to egister during the regular registration period.
31 January-04 February 2020 Cuma-Tuesday The academic units are required to enter the results of the assessments regarding the acceptance or rejection of the applications for Special student, Double major, Minor programs and Transfer to Associate and Undergraduate programs into the system by 04 February 2020 Tuesday,until 15:00 at the latest. Announcement of the results by the Registrar’s office via SMS and  by sending a written notification.  (At this stage, the students will only be notified about their Acceptance/Rejection status; their course adjustments will be made after the they have completed their registrations)  Undergraduate
03 February 2020 Monday Starting date for the year-long courses of the Faculty of Medicine, in the  2019-2020 Academic year Spring semester

05-07 February 2020 Wednesday-Friday Implementation of the course adjustments of the transfer students from other institutions, who have completed their final registrations, by the respective academic units. In lateral transfers, any courses that have been automatically assigned should be cancelled. There shouldn’t be any assigned courses during the adjustment process. The academic unit which the student has been admitted to, is responsible for entering the relevant course adjustments into the system. Course adjustments for undergraduate transfers and double major/minor programs within the university must be submitted to the Student Affairs/Registrar’s Office. The relevant course adjustments will be entered into the system by  the Student Affairs/Registrar’s Office
07 February 2020 Friday Deadline for all students to pay any outstanding debts  and fulfill their financial obligations for the Spring semester. The SAP system will not be open for the registration of students who have not fulfilled their financial obligations before the regular registration period and these students will not be able to register during the regular registration period.
19 February 2020 Wednesday TURKISH Language Proficiency Exam for International  students who have been accepted to associate, undergraduate and graduate degree programs in which the medium of instruction is Turkish, but who do not hold a certificate for Turkish Language Proficiency & the announcement of the Exam results.  The Exam will be organized by the School of Foreign Languages. The Written and Speaking Exams are planned to be held at 09:30 and 13:30 respectively and the place of the Exam will be announced subsequently. 10 February  2020 Monday 2019-2020 Academic year Spring Semester courses begin for the  Associate and Undergraduate degree students.
10-13 February 2020 Monday - Thursday Application of the students who have not been able to register for their courses during the regular registration Period  (03-06 February 2020) and who have a justifiable reason for being unable to do so, to their respective departments between the dates 10-13 February together with the documentation of their justifications. The students whose justifications are approved will be referred to the Financial Affairs by e-mail. The system is opened during the ADD-DROP Period, provided that these students whose justifications have been approved fulfil their financial obligations and the students themselves are responsible for registering on-line during the ADD-DROP Period in the following week.  Students who have paid their course fees but have not registered on-line for their courses until the end of the ADD-DROP Period  will be regarded as NOT having completed their course registrations for that semester.
11-14 February 2020 Tuesday - Friday Application of the students in the Associate and Undergraduate programs who have met their graduation requirements at the end of the 2019- 2020 Fall Semester for the ADDITIONAL exams that they are eligible for, in accordance with the academic regulations. These students can register for the Spring Semester courses. If they are successful in the ADDITIONAL exams, they can apply to the Registrar's Office to withdraw from those courses and can get a full  refund of their course fees.
15 February 2020 Saturday Planning of the exam schedules for the ADDITIONAL exams  by the relevant academic units. Notification of the students who are eligible to take the exams, the departments of the respective courses and their course instructors.
15-16 February 2020 Saturday - Sunday  Giving Core Course EXEMPTION Exams to students who have just started university education -newly-registered students who have passed the Language Proficiency Exam and started attending their programs, (transfer  and DGS students are not eligible to take exemption exams on core curriculum) and notifying the Registrar's Office about the Exemption exam results. The respective departments will notify the students about these exams. The General Education Department is responsible for organizing and giving the exemption exams for the courses TLL1005-1006 offered to International Students.
17-21 February 2020 Monday -Friday ADD-DROP week. Course Add-Drop week (ADD-DROP week) for all Associate and Undergraduate students. Students who have not registered for any course during the regular registration period cannot register for any courses during the Add-Drop Period. The SAP system will be closed for these students. Therefore, students must have fulfilled all financial procedures by 10 January 2020 and completed their registrations during the regular registration period.
18-19 February 2020 Tuesday-Wednesday ADDITIONAL Exams for Associate and Undergraduate degree students who have met their graduation requirements and are eligible for the Additional Exams in accordance with the academic regulations. Planning of the ADDITIONAL exams will be carried out by the respective academic units  and the students who have applied for the exams, the departments/academic units  these courses are connected to and the course instructors will be notified. Prompt assessment of the exams, announcement of the exam results to the students and submission of the results to the Registrar’s Office.  Students who fail in the exams can register for the courses during the ADD-DROP Period.
19 February 2020 Wednesday Elective courses for which there has not been sufficient student registration during the ADD-DROP week will be cancelled on 19 February 2020 Wednesday (at 16:00.).  Associate and Undergraduate degree students who have previously registered to one of these cancelled courses are required to register online through the SAP system to some other elective course by 21 February 2020  Friday (until 16:00). Students will not be able to choose or register for any elective courses after this date. Students whose courses have been dropped due to the cancellation of elective courses shall be notified by SMS that they are regarded as having dropped the cancelled elective courses. However, it is the responsibility of the students to enter the system on 20 February 2020, Thursday, to check the courses on their programs and see if there are any courses they may have dropped.  Elective courses which are still in demand, even though there has not been sufficient student registration, will not be taken into account regarding the teaching workload or payment to the course instructor.  Thursday günü sisteme bakarak düşürülen dersleri takip etmek öğrencinin sorumluluğundadır. Yeterli öğrencisi olmayan derslerden açık kalması istenen seçmeli dersler için öğretim elemanının ders yüküne ücretlendirilmesine sayılmaz.
19 February 2020 Wednesday Deadline for students, who have registered for a course by some means or other, to fulfil their financial obligations. Course registrations of the students who have failed to fulfil their financial obligations will be cancelled and in that case these students will be regarded as “not having registered for a course” in that semester. The students themselves are liable for any courses that are not dropped (from their course program) by this date, whether the system has assigned the course or the students themselves have registered for that course. Especially, scholarship students should pay due care and attention to such course registrations.
19 February 2020 Wednesday Since any courses that the student may have failed in are assigned by the system, SCHOLARSHIP students who do not register for their courses themselves are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to enter the system at the end of the ADD-DROP period and check the courses they are registered to in their programs
25 February 2020  Tuesday English Proficiency Exam for students going abroad with Erasmus & World Exchange programs.
06 March 2020 Friday Scheduling of the mid-term exams for the Spring Semester and their announcement by the respective academic units. In accordance with the academic regulations, at least one written mid-term exam must be scheduled for each course. Submission of the decisions reached by the Faculty/School boards regarding how the mid-term /final exams- other than the written exams - are to be administered (i.e. oral, written)  to the Academic Planning Unit. In the event of an appeal made for re-evaluation of an exam, it is essential to provide documented evidence to support the appeal (such as a jury report, camera recording, etc.). 07 May 2020 Thursday TURKISH Language Proficiency Exam for International  students who have been accepted to associate, undergraduate and graduate degree programs in which the medium of instruction is Turkish, but who do not hold a certificate for Turkish Language Proficiency & the announcement of the Exam results.  The Exam will be organized by the School of Foreign Languages. The Written and Speaking Exams are planned to be held at 09:30 and 13:30 respectively and the place of the Exam will be announced subsequently. The announcement for the Exam is to be made by the School of Foreign Languages and (international)  students who would like to take the Exam are required to apply to the School of Foreign Languages. The exam results will be announced on the same day.

SUMMER SCHOOL
20-22 July 2020 Monday-Wednesday Course registrations for Summer School. There is no ADD-DROP Period in the Summer School  and students cannot Withdraw from a course that they have registered for.
21 July 2020 Tuesday Announcement of the courses that do not meet the conditions required for opening a course and are therefore to be cancelled in the Summer School Period, to the students by the Academic Planning Unit; the announcement will be made around 17:00 and students who are regarded as having dropped a course will be notified by SMS or by some other means. It is the responsibility of the students to enter the system on 21 July 2020 Tuesday, to check the courses on their programs and see if there are any courses they may have dropped.  Students who are regarded as having dropped a course due to the cancellation of that course can register online for another course through the system, on 22 July 2020 Wednesday.  Courses which are still in demand, even though they do not meet the required conditions, will not be taken into account regarding the teaching workload or payment to the course instructor.
