Purpose of General Directorate, to conduct research on Ottoman in terms of policy, social, demographics, history, economy, cultural, archeology, architecture, art history, urbanism and similar fields and carry out congress, symposium, panel, seminar, conference etc.
To make research on historical, political, cultural and economic issues of the countries located in Ottoman geography with which Turkey is interrelated with, gained more importance after 1990 when Turkey increased its political and economic activities in the region. Some of these countries are members of the EU and some has close relationship with EU, thus we need to improve our relations with these countries. Turkish and Muslim population lives in the majority of these countries and Turkey is historical and cultural homeland for these people, which also requires Turkey to deal with these region. All these factors summarize the importance of the research and publications to be made in Turkey especially about Ottoman.
The mission of Ottoman and Turkish History Application and Research General Directorate is the conduct social, financial, cultural, political, natural environment, security and strategic researches with regard to Turkey and Ottoman countries from past to present and collect scientific data. Within this scope the unit makes effort on the publication and presentation of works, to organize national and international scientific meetings in order to gather academicians from Turkey and Ottoman countries and to produce national and international projects.
Material and moral heritage of Ottoman shall be brought up to raise international awareness to protect Ottoman’s cultural assets.
Fields of Activity
a) To follow up the researches conducted on the history, literature, policy, culture, economy, society, archeology, architecture, art history, urbanism and similar assets of Turkish and other Ottoman people who had lived and still living in the geography under different names and to archive required information and resources.
b) To cooperate with domestic and international academic, official and private bodies and institutions, to exchange material, students and academicians, to organize scientific meetings on history, demography, culture, economy, society, archeology, architecture, art history, urbanism and similar subjects. To carry out joint projects and publication activities with regard to the history, culture, art, civilization, cultural assets of the people lived under Ottoman.
c) To organize domestic and international conferences, symposiums, congresses, panels on political, social, demographics, historic, economic, cultural, educational, scientific and similar issues with regard to Ottoman, and inform world public about Ottomans.
d) To open courses and publish in order to popularize Ottoman Turkish.
e) To research the common history, cultural assets, social, political and economic similarities of Ottoman countries, to cooperate with domestic and international public, private and legal entities in foregoing areas, to follow up and incent team works; to direct and coordinate academic cooperation between the Ottoman countries’ universities and other institutions; to organize seminars, panels with regard to Turkish existence in ottoman to publish the results via magazine, article and books.
f) To ensure the execution of scientific researches with regard to Turkey and Ottoman countries, to examine archives, museums and libraries.
g) To follow up related books, publications issued in Turkey, Ottoman countries and other counties, to incent Turkish scientist make publications, to translate products written in other languages into Turkish.
h) To set up a web site, to publish related material, to create archive and library.
