o The medium of education is English.
o Almost a quarter of our students (580) are international students (150) representing over 30 countries.
o Our students have been accepted for summer programs in distinguished laboratories or clinics around the world such as Harvard Medical School, Yale Medical School, Georgetown University, Arkansas Heart Hospital, Oxford University in the UK, Middleheim Hospital in Belgium, Riken Labs in Tokyo and Asan Hospital in South Korea, among many others.
o It is listed in the FAIMER Directory of Medical Schools (See: here), recognized by the Higher Education Council in Turkey, and students and graduates can take the American USMLE test.

EASE OF DOING RESIDENCY ABROAD / IN TURKEY
o USMLE and TUS courses are offered in house for students who want to specialize in Turkey or the US.
o Students are able to request access to any study materials they wish purchased through our library.
HOSPITAL EXPERIENCE FROM DAY ONE
o Our students spend time in the hospital from the first week they start their medical education. They spend one afternoon per week at the Göztepe Medical Park Hospital gaining real life experience from the beginning.
o The Bahçeşehir University Göztepe Medical Park Hospital is Turkey’s largest private hospital accepting the government social security. This means students have access to a very large number of patients in many fields in a large hospital, which itself is part of the Medical Park Hospital Group. MP is Turkey’s largest group with over 20 hospitals around Turkey.
ACCESSIBLE PROFESSORS THAT ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO RESEARCH
o We have 150+ faculty members who are accessible to our students, especially for research projects. Many students have published scientific articles even before the end of their first year.
o Students are assigned a research mentor from the first week based on student interest areas.
A CUSTOM-MADE, UNIQUE CURRICULUM WITH SPECIAL FOCUS ON ANATOMY
o The curriculum supports students who want to take the USMLE for residency in the US. As in the words of one of our international students who took the USMLE in his 4th year says, “Studying for my committee exams helped me do better on the USMLE, and studying for the USMLE helped me get a high GPA.”
o The BAU School of Medicine offers medical education based on its own, specially designed curriculum which has several unique features such as including twice as many hours of Anatomy courses as other medical schools.
o Anatomy Lab open 24/7 - Students can study on models and cadavers any time they want.
o Students can perform dissections by themselves under faculty supervision. (In most medical schools around the world, students have limited opportunities for dissection. They mostly work on prosected (pre-prepared) cadavers
o Students can dissect a complete cadaver, not just parts. Each year 6-10 cadavers are used for dissection sessions.
o Students gain more experience at BAU TIP than most other medical schools in making educated decisions concerning dissection, as well as in dissection technique and identification of human anatomical structures.
o Anatomy classes are supported by Radiological Anatomy classes, which are taught by radiology specialists. BAU TIP students take 70-80 hours Radiological Anatomy classes (At a typical medical school, students receive 15-20 hours of radiological anatomy per year.)
o As of the first year, students learn how to evaluate radiological images (in most other medical schools, this type expertise is reached by the end of the 6th year). In the second year, the students get to learn from a radiology professor teaches the pathological radiological images. It is not common for radiologists to teach so many hours. More experience gained during education is crucial for student’s future daily practices as physicians.
o Students take 3 times the typical hours of biophysics, do more case studies than most other medical schools in histology and other basic science fields.
INSPIRATION AND MENTORHSIP BY WORLD-RENOWNED PHYSICIAN-SCIENTISTS
o Each class is called by an outstanding scientist’s name; the Prof. Al-Mefty Class, the Prof. Stiles class, Prof. Apuzzo Class, Prof. Vu Class etc. The students in that class are able to receive mentorship from their namesake and spend time with them personally for guidance.
CONVENIENCE, LOCATION, TRANSPORTATION
o The hospital and the medical school are within 2 minutes’ walking distance of each other.
o The Medical School is located in Göztepe, which is a safe, residential area with dormitories close by and several apartment buildings where many students live with roommates from medical school. The school is also conveniently located (See here for exact location) near the metro, bus stops as well as having a BAU shuttle bus to and from the Üsküdar boat docks.
NOT JUST MEDICINE, BUT SOCIAL SCIENCES, ART, PHILOSPHY
o Students are given multiple opportunities a month to attend seminars on art, philosophy, history and other scientific areas because we believe in training doctors with many interest areas to draw inspiration from.
